🚀 HEAL Project Update: From Research to Digital Solutions
The HEAL – Healthcare Environment Needs Accessible Language project is moving into an exciting and highly practical phase!
After months of research, interviews, focus groups and analysis of the communication needs of d/Deaf people and healthcare professionals, our partnership is now working intensively on the development of the HEAL app and digital platform.
💻 The team is currently transforming the knowledge gathered during the research phase into an accessible and practical digital tool. The app is being enriched with a dedicated healthcare glossary, communication resources and practical content designed to support clearer and more inclusive interactions between healthcare professionals and d/Deaf patients.
One important element of the HEAL solution is a glossary containing at least 50 key healthcare-related terms and sentences, developed around the real communication and accessibility needs identified during the project.
And why does this matter?
🌍 Sign language is not universal. More than 200 national sign languages are used around the world, each with its own grammar, structure and vocabulary. This linguistic diversity highlights why accessible healthcare communication cannot follow a one-size-fits-all approach.
That is exactly why HEAL is working on resources that combine healthcare terminology, accessibility and multilingual content.
